¹⁸ Many people, because they had heard that he had performed this sign, went out to meet him.

Study: Many of the people in Jerusalem during Palm Sunday and Holy Week were not opposing Jesus, but they were not following Jesus either. Many of the people who were present at the parade that we now call Palm Sunday were simply fans of Jesus. These fans of Jesus were there to see Jesus perform miracles and join in the fun. However, these fans did not stand with Jesus when he was being crucified, and instead abandoned him to his fate. Today we sometimes make the mistake of being fans of Jesus instead of followers of Jesus. We are excited to celebrate Christmas, participate in the Easter Egg hunt, and accept the grace and forgiveness that Jesus offers. However, we are sometimes less excited to make the sacrifices necessary to be disciples of Christ. Are you just a fan of Jesus? Are you willing to make sacrifices for Christ and for others? Are you all in?

Prayer: God I don’t want to be just a fan; I want to be your follower.  Please help me to be obedient and follow you. Amen.
