HOLY WEEK

TUESDAY

Read: John 12:19

19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!”

Study: When Jesus came into Jerusalem at the beginning of Holy Week, not everyone at the parade was happy to see him. On the contrary, the Pharisees were actively plotting to try and stop Jesus’ ministry and teachings by any means necessary. As contemporary readers we often classify the Pharisees as the “bad guys” who were simply out to do evil. However, it is almost certain that the Pharisees thought that their opposition to Jesus was what God wanted. Christians today sometimes make the mistake of opposing the work of Jesus by accident. Whenever we treat someone else as if they are not loved by God, we run the risk of accidently opposing Jesus. Today each of us should consider if we have ever accidently opposed the work of Jesus. Is there someone you are not treating as if they are God’s child? Are you working against God’s will because of selfishness or sin? How can you make sure that you are not accidently opposing Jesus today?

Prayer:  God I know that I don’t always get everything wright. I know that sometimes I do things that are against your will. Please help me to never oppose you, but to serve you instead. Amen.
