WORDS MATTER

This Weeks Introduction: John 1:1 starts by saying, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”  It is astonishing how God created everything with his simple words.  It is through the world of God that all things were made.  While we are certainly not God, we are made in God’s image.  This means that while we cannot create a universe through speaking, our words do have power.  This week’s Grow Pray and Study guide will focus on the words that we speak.  Each of us has said harmful things, and we have missed opportunities to speak words of love and encouragement.  Let us study together some of the wisdom God has to share with us about the words we speak. ~ Pastor Adam Ricks

Read: Proverbs 18:21

” 21 The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. ” (NIV Proverbs 18:21)

Study: The words that we speak can cause great joy and great pain. We often underestimate the amount of power found in our words.  The words that we speak can break hearts or mend wounds.  God gave to us the power of words, and with that power we have the ability to make a huge difference in the lives of others.  Simply remembering that our words can cause great pain and great joy can help us be more mindful of our words.  Have you spoken words that caused pain?  Have you asked for forgiveness?  Have you taken opportunities to speak words that cause joy for others?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me be more mindful of my words.  Please help me to use my words to cause joy instead of pain.
