Read: Proverbs 3:27-29

27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
when it is in your power to act.
28 Do not say to your neighbor,
“Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”—
when you already have it with you.
29 Do not plot harm against your neighbor,
    who lives trustfully near you.

Study: This is a scripture that stuck in my mind the very first time I read it. Have you ever had certain scriptures make an immediate impact on you? This one did to me. And believe me it has come to my mind hundreds of times throughout the years. It’s very simple and to the point; if you can help someone then do it! There are many times where I have legitimate excuses of why I cannot give they money in my pocket but, every time, I feel this verse urging me to give. This is the challenge of scripture that moves us to action against our initial thoughts at times. In what ways can you take steps to give whenever you are able? Perhaps you could budget for an amount that you can keep set aside for anyone that asks of it. There are many options, but the proverb is simple: Give when you are able.

Pray: Lord, you have given me an abundance. The least I can do is give part of that bounty to those around me. Free me to do just that without hesitation. Amen.
