SLOW DOWN

Read: Mark 8:34

“Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. ” (NIV Mark 8:34)

Study: To deny oneself is a tall task. It is not easy to deny your own well being in order to follow God. Jesus shows us time and time again that the difficult path is often the path of a Christian. The path was not easy for Jesus. His cross was heavy. But even Jesus had help when a man came and helped him carry his cross. When we deny ourselves in order to carry the cross, we will be uncomfortable. We will face things we do not want to face. But we know that we are not alone. What parts of yourself must you deny in order to take up the cross? What difficulties might this bring? Who is there to help you carry that cross?

Prayer: God, today I thank you for all that you have blessed me with. I pray that you help me to discover what it is I need to deny. Help me to follow you even though it may be difficult because I know that it will be worth it. May I be a servant in your Kingdom. Amen.
