QUICK TO LISTEN, SLOW TO SPEAK

Friday

Read: Ephesians 4:29

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (NIV Ephesians 4:29)

Study: This is a hard verse to hear. It is easy to casually gossip. It is easy to say something mean out of jest. It is easy to complain when we know our words do no harm. Sometimes we do not even realize how much we complain or talk in a negative manner. Here in Ephesians, Paul tells us that we should not speak unless it is positive and builds up others. Over today and this weekend, try to be very intentional about the words you say. Keep track of the times you start to say something negative or start to gossip. Try to say only things that build up, not tear down.

Prayer: Lord, make me aware of the times unwholesome talk comes out of my mouth. I pray that you help me build up others in my speech this weekend.  Amen.
