FIRSTFRUITS – OUR BEST

Thursday

Read: Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ” (NIV Philippians 4:6-7)

Study: Can’t you imagine the apostle Paul, in a sunny meadow filled with flowers, pausing to pen these beautiful words about the peace God gives? Actually, Paul was a prisoner in a Roman dungeon when he wrote this (Philippians 1:12-14). In fact, he wasn’t sure whether he would be released or executed (Philippians 1:20-21). Paul could truly bear witness that God’s gift of peace “transcends all understanding.” It went with him, not only through times our human nature calls peaceful, but even into prison and beyond the executioner’s blade. We don’t get God’s love, joy and peace by trying hard to be loving, joyful and at peace. How can you “try” less, and trustingly open your life more to the Holy Spirit’s presence so that God can grow these fruits in your life?

Pray: Almighty God, even when I feel as if my life is not what I want it to be, let me find comfort and joy in your arms. You are all I need. Amen.
