HEALING AND THE OTHER

Monday

Read: Luke 17:11-13

Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” (NIV Luke 17:11-13)

Study: In this story, when the ten men with leprosy (the Greek word here can refer to any skin disease) hear that Jesus is coming through their town, they decide to stand at a distance and ask him to heal them. Remember they were ashamed of their disease and would have been shunned from their community. This act would have surely led to their humiliation and rebuking by the community. What, in your life, are you asking Jesus to heal? Is there anything that you are ashamed of or that has ostracized you from a community? Take those things and say, “Master, have pity on me.” Give it all to Christ and know that you will be made whole.

Pray: Lord, have pity on me. I give you my worries and troubles and know that you are good. Thank you for loving grace. Amen.
