SUFFERING AND SIN

Friday

Read: Job 1:20-21

“20 At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship 21 and said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” ” (NIV Job 1:20-21)

Study: Job’s story is a tragically interesting one. Job was a man who feared God and did everything right. Despite this, he suffered great losses. He lost his family, his livelihood, and was left sick in the street. How does a man, who followed God and did everything right, face such hardships? Have you ever known anyone who suffered despite being a great person? Job is story that wrestles with the question, “why do bad things happen to good people?” Job’s ability to rely on God and have faith in the midst of his tragedies is admirable. He recognized the fact that all he had was a gift from God. Because of this amazing strength, Job was able to find hope where there was none. When we suffer, there is no need to justify that suffering. Sometimes good people suffer. What we can do is lean on God and lean on each other when those things happen.

Prayer: Even when I suffer, God, I know you are there. Let me cry out to you. Let me praise you. Let me remember that you have given me life. That life is yours. Amen.
