Read: Philippians 4:10-13
“10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it.11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength. ” (NIV Philippians 4:10-13)
Study: When Paul is writing to the people in Philippi, he is writing from a prison cell in Rome. Paul’s contentment with his circumstances amazes me. I cannot tell you how many times I have been in a bad mood or felt as if my day was ruined because of something silly like traffic or long lines at the grocery store. How is it that Paul remains so upbeat in the face of such dire circumstances? “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Through Christ, we can find that peace that passes all understanding. Today, when you feel irritated or overwhelmed, think of all that Christ has done and promised. While we might face hardships, we can do all things through Christ.
Pray: Holy God, even when I am tested, you will provide peace. Thank you for your example in Paul. May I live into your love. Amen.
