SLOW DOWN
Read: Luke 10:38-42
“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” ” (NIV Luke 10:38-42
Study: So many times, we think that being a good Christian means that we should constantly be busy. While doing good things is a part of being a Christian, we often forget that the Lord calls us to stop being so busy so that we can hear what he is teaching us. Mary sat and listened to Jesus while Martha was too distracted to listen. What are we distracted by? What might you have to give up in order to stop and listen to Jesus? Think about these two questions today.
Prayer: Jesus, today I want to listen to you. Help me to stop and hear what you are saying to me. Forgive me for being distracted by all of the things in my life. I pray you show me peace in the busyness of life today. Amen
