OWN IT – THE TITHE

Friday

Read: Deuteronomy 14:28-29

“At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. (NIV Deuteronomy 14:28-29)

Study: The first tithe taken annually was used to support the Levites. Every third year a special tithe was taken for the distinct purpose of supporting orphans, widows, and strangers. Integrated into God’s law was a special provision to take care of the most vulnerable citizens. Interestingly enough, this included caring for people from outside of their community. Do we still do this? There is no doubt that Connect church does a great deal for those who need help but we can always strive to do better. Both communally and individually, we should always be looking for ways to help the orphans, widows and strangers around us. Think about where you might play a role in this service to others.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You have opened my eyes to those who need around me. May I never turn a blind eye to them again. May I bless them with what I have so that they may know your love through me.  Amen
