Simon Peter
Study: Simon Peter is, without a doubt, the most popular of the disciples. Before following Jesus, Simon made his living as a fisherman. Peter was rom Galilean. This is important because of what being a Galilean meant. 1st century Jewish scholar described Galileans like this, “They were ever fond of innovation and by nature disposed to change and delighted in sedition. They were ever ready to follow the leader and to begin an insurrection. They were quick in temper and given to quarreling and they were very chivalrous men.” We see this chivalry in his passion and devotion for Christ. While he had many faults (such as the denying of Christ) Christ used peter as the “rock” on which the church was built. No matter how hard-headed we are at times, Christ can use us to do great things.
Prayer: Christ Jesus, In spite of my stubbornness and faults, use me as you will. Thank for using Peter as you did and giving us his example. May we go and do likewise. Amen
