Lent Devotion Guide #2 – Overcoming The Lies: Anxiety and Worry

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 23, 2021

An Introduction
Hello Connect Church Family! As we prepare for the coming of Easter I will be sharing a sermon series titled, “Overcoming the Lies.” To accompany the sermon series and help us grow as individual Christians, we have also put together this devotional guide. I hope this will be a blessing to you! Every weekday, for the next several weeks, you are invited to join your church family and spend a few moments in this book. A number of people from our church community have contributed to make this booklet possible. On other days I have shared short thoughts on scriptures and left space for you to pray through what the scripture means for you. I hope you will join me and many others in your church family as we prepare for the coming of Easter!

Read: Mathew 6:25-35

Today’s troubles are enough for today. I have this verse memorized but do not bring it to mind often enough. We can become so busy worrying and planning for when things go wrong that we miss experiencing the small joys that occur today. Worry and the accompanying stress don’t just steal joy from us but frequently from those closest to us. We also miss seeing the opportunities to be a light in the darkness for someone else, the caring hands or the loving heart that Jesus calls us to be. All because we have tied ourselves up into a ball of worry and anxiety about something that may never happen. Perhaps if we focus on today, we can be there for someone else and God will miraculously send someone to be there for us in our time.
