ANGER

Read: Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (NIV Philippians 4:8)

Study: Apply your thoughts and meditations to the things that are praiseworthy. This may sound simple but it can be difficult to carry out. When we are angry, Paul directs us to direct our minds to the things in this world that are good. In worrisome times, such as these, we are reminded that there is still good all around us. God does not rest. As Mr. Rogers once said, “Look for the helpers.” These words of advice are crucial when we are angry, sad, or filled with worry. This week, spend some time with your family naming the good you see in the midst of this pandemic. Through our constant media bombardment, we are accustomed to seeing the bad but, through meditation and prayer, we can begin to see God at work all around us.

Prayer: God of mercy, even when I am afraid, you are there. Even when I am angry, you are there. Even when all feels lost you are there. You never rest. Amen.
