ENVY
Introduction: This week we will be focusing on the sin of sloth. Sloth is traditionally listed as one of the “7 deadly sins” because it is a sin that can lead us on a path to many others. Sloth is not just doing nothing, but neglecting to do the things that God wants us to do. Sloth is living without a passion for things that deserve our passion. This week we will discuss the danger of sloth and how to avoid living a life without zeal. ~ Pastor Adam Ricks
Wednesday
Read: Romans 12:10-11
10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. (NIV Romans 12:10-11)
Study: Sloth prevents us from living life with zeal. Sometimes we get confused about morality as disciples of Christ. We think that God’s primary concern is to keep us from doing certain things. Do not lie, do not steal, do not commit adultery, etc. However, a Christian life is not primarily about refraining, but about living with zeal. We are called to love with zeal, to be generous with zeal, to forgive with zeal. A slothful life is a life without zeal or passion. We may be busy with work or other time consuming activities, but we do nothing with zeal. Our life must be free from sloth and therefore open to living passionately for the things that truly matter. Do you live a busy life, but a life without passion? Do you live with a zeal for anything? Do you live for a zeal for the right things?
Prayer: Lord, I do not want to be a person without zeal. I know that even in my business I can live a slothful life. Please help me to find my passion. Amen.
