FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD
Monday
Read: James 2:14-17
“14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. ” (NIV James 2:14-17)
Study: Can you have faith without doing good deeds? This has been an argument between Christians since the early days of the faith. This week, we will be looking at both Paul and James to determine what they think of the matter. In today’s verses, we see James touching on an issue that we still face today. James was bothered by the different Christian groups who claimed to have great faith but did not act on that faith. He is not downplaying the importance of faith, however. Instead, James argues that true faith drives a believer to act on that faith. Do your actions match your faith?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, this week I pray that you open my eyes to the importance of faith and works. I know both are important and I seek to live both in my life. Amen.
