LUKE: THE OTHER
Wednesday
Read: Matthew 5:38-42
“38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. ” (NIV Matthew 5:38-42)
Study: We have been focusing mainly on relationships with those to whom we are in a covenant relationship or Christian friendship with. This verse extends our relationships to those who are not our friends or acquaintances. As Christians, we are called to seek healthy relationships even with those who may consider our enemy. If someone asks of us, we are called to give. This can seem hard and goes against all that we know as Americans, but Jesus shows us that radical giving and serving goes a long way in a relationship. Have you ever served or gave radically to someone who you are not really fond of? I challenge you to try this today.
Pray: Lord, just as you have radically given and loved, I pray that I learn to do the same. Amen
