FAITHFULNESS
Wednesday
Read: 1 John 1:9
“9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (NIV 1 John 1:9)
Study: We all sin. We know that. But, how many of us truly confess our sins? Most of us are, what I like to call, “one-sin-ponies”. We have one or two sins that we are guilty of coming back to throughout our lives. Many times, we hide this sin away and refuse to face it, or we feel constant guilt for not conquering it. 1 John focuses in the importance of confession in our lives. For centuries, the church has stressed the benefits of confessing our sins to God and to others. Because the protestant church has placed less emphasis on confession, many of us live with the guilt and shame of our sins. Confession gives us a way to lift the weight of our sins and face them head on. Is there someone who you trust to hear your confessions? If so, lean on them. If not, God is always ready to hear you and help you.
Pray: God, give me the strength to confess my sins to you. I lay myself at your feet and trust in your goodness. Heal me and make me yours. Amen.
