GPS Guide – Dec 27th 2017
Read: Isaiah 9:6
Study: This verse is a perfect example of who the people (especially the disciples) thought Jesus was supposed to be. Everyone expected a king to rise up and lead the Jewish people to the prominence they once held in Jerusalem. They thought the Kingdom of God would be a physical kingdom ruled by a physical king. That is why, throughout the Gospels, Jesus is expected to be someone he is not. Although he would not be the king they expected, he was the “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” What presuppositions to you hold about who Christ should be? Perhaps, if you reorient the way you think about Christ, you might find that he is working in your life in ways you never imagined.
Prayer: Jesus Christ, I come to you today and ask that you help me rethink the way I view you. You surprised everyone 2000 years ago. I pray you continue to surprise me today. Amen
