Introduction: This week we will be focusing on the sin of sloth. Sloth is traditionally listed as one of the “7 deadly sins” because it is a sin that can lead us on a path to many others. Sloth is not just doing nothing, but neglecting to do the things that God wants us to do. Sloth is living without a passion for things that deserve our passion. This week we will discuss the danger of sloth and how to avoid living a life without zeal. ~ Pastor Adam Ricks
Read: John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (NIV John 3:16)
Study: I can eliminate sloth by remembering my life is a gift from God. While everyday might not be easy or perfect, everyday is a day given to us by God. Everyday God has things that we are called to do. Sometimes we are called to rest, sometimes we are called to work, and sometimes we are called to mourn. Each day that we fail to do the things that God calls us to do is a day of sloth. When we remember the precious gift of everyday, we are more able to fight against the pull of sloth. I will never have another day like today, and I will never have another opportunity to be faithful on this day. Do you treat each day like it is a gift from God? How can you be faithful everyday?
Pray: Lord, I am grateful for each day. I want to be faithful today with the things that you are calling me to do. Please help me to remember the calling that you have for me. Amen.
