Daily Devotional – Day 20 Wesley Challenge
Day 20: Is There Anyone I Hold Resentment Toward?
Scripture:
Colossians 3:13
Daily Challenge:
Take one step toward forgiveness today—pray for the person or release the resentment to God.
Teaching:
It was recently a hot day, and I was drinking lots of water to try and cool down. I finished the water in my bottle, and a friend grabbed another and handed it to me. For me to take the new full water bottle I had to put the old one down. None of us can take a gift if our fist is closed around something else. Just like each of us needs to be forgiven, we each are asked to share forgiveness. The wounds we carry may come from being hurt, misunderstood, or wronged by others. Over time, it can grow into bitterness and distance. Holding onto resentment does not protect us—it weighs us down. Scripture calls us to forgive as the Lord forgave us. Forgiveness is not about excusing what happened; it is about releasing the burden. It is choosing freedom over bitterness. Forgiveness is often a process, not a one-time decision. But every step toward forgiveness brings healing. God invites us to bring our hurts to Him and trust Him with justice. Today is an opportunity to begin letting go.
Reflection Questions:
- Is there someone I am struggling to forgive?
- How is resentment affecting my heart and relationships?
- What is one step I can take toward forgiveness today?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to release any resentment I am holding. Give me the strength to forgive as You have forgiven me. Heal the hurt in my heart. Help me to trust You with what I cannot control. Lead me into freedom.
