Daily Devotional – Day 19 Wesley Challenge

Day 19: Am I Honest, or Do I Exaggerate?

Scripture:
Ephesians 4:25

Daily Challenge:
Be completely truthful in every conversation today, even in small details.

Teaching:
Most of us want others to like us. We want to be loved and appreciated, but we are so unsure of ourselves that it is challenging to be completely honest. Each of us are tempted to edit the story of our lives to put ourselves in the best light. Small distortions of truth can slip into our conversations without much thought. We may exaggerate to impress, to entertain, or to protect ourselves. But over time, even small dishonesty can weaken our character. God loves you, and many others will forgive you for your wrongs and love you as well. However, if we never let others see our true selves, we will never give them a chance to show us that we can be loved in spite of our shortcomings an struggles. Scripture calls us to speak truthfully to one another. Truth builds trust, while dishonesty creates confusion and distance. Living truthfully requires awareness and intentionality. It means choosing honesty even when it is uncomfortable. When we commit to truth, we reflect God’s character more clearly. Today is an opportunity to practice integrity in every word we speak.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Am I ever tempted to exaggerate or stretch the truth?
  2. Why do I feel the need to do that?
  3. What would full honesty look like in my conversations?

Prayer:
God, help me to speak truth in all things. Remove any desire to exaggerate or mislead. Give me integrity in my words and actions. Help me to reflect Your truth. Let my words build trust and honor You.
