Daily Devotional – Day 7 Wesley Challenge

Day 7: Do I Give Time for the Bible to Speak to Me Every Day?

Scripture:
Psalm 119:105

Daily Challenge:
Set aside a specific time today to read Scripture slowly and listen for what God is saying.

Teaching:
A common human temptation is to set aside the important for the urgent. It is not necessarily always the wrong thing to do, but we must make sure that the important things are treated as urgent things. John Wesley did not ask this question to create more for Christians to do, but to get us to reframe how we think about our time in scripture. Like prayer the Bible reading gives us access to the living water of Jesus. All of us know that no matter how busy we get, we ultimately must make time to eat, drink water, and sleep. Without taking care of these things, we will eventually fail at all things. Christians should have prayer and time in the Bible in the same category as staying hydrated. It is easy to rush through Scripture—or skip it altogether, but eventually we will suffer a spiritual malnutrition that will grind us to a halt. Giving time for the Bible to “speak” requires more than quick reading—it requires intentional listening. This means slowing down, reflecting, and allowing God to speak through His Word. When we consistently make space for Scripture, we begin to hear God more clearly. His truth anchors us, directs us, and gives us wisdom for everyday life. Without it, we are more likely to be shaped by culture, emotions, or circumstances. But when we prioritize time in the Word, we are shaped by God. This is not about perfection—it is about consistency. Even a few intentional minutes can make a lasting impact. Today, choose to make space for God’s voice.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Do I consistently make time for Scripture each day?
  2. What distractions keep me from engaging deeply with God’s Word?
  3. How can I create a sustainable rhythm of reading the Bible?

Prayer:
God, help me to make time for Your Word every day. Speak to me as I read and guide me in Your truth. Remove distractions that pull me away from You. Give me a desire to hear Your voice. Let Your Word shape my life.
