Daily Devotional – Day 6 Wesley Challenge
Day 6: Do I Pray About the Money I Spend?
Scripture:
Matthew 6:21
Daily Challenge:
Before making any purchase today, pause and briefly ask God for wisdom.
Teaching:
Contrary to popular belief, Jesus talked about money a lot, a whole lot. Jesus did not talk about money because he needed it, he did not, or because money is evil, it is not. Jesus talked about money so often because our finances reveal a great deal about our hearts. Jesus taught that where our treasure is, our heart will be also. Yet many of us make financial decisions without ever inviting God into them. We have a fantasy that our relationship with our bank accounts and our relationship with Jesus are separate compartments of our lives. This question challenges us to see money not just as a resource, but as a spiritual responsibility. When we pray about how we spend, we begin to align our finances with God’s priorities. It shifts our focus from impulse to intentionality. God cares about every part of our lives, including how we use what He has given us. Prayer helps us move from being consumers to being stewards. It also protects us from greed, comparison, and unnecessary stress. When we trust God with our finances, we experience greater freedom and purpose. Today, invite God into your financial decisions.
Reflection Questions:
- Do my spending habits reflect my faith and values?
- How often do I invite God into my financial decisions?
- What is one way I can be more intentional with my resources?
Prayer:
Lord, help me to be a wise steward of what You have given me. Guide my decisions and shape my priorities. Protect my heart from greed and comparison. Teach me to trust You with my finances. Use what I have for Your purposes.
