Daily Devotional – Day 4 Wesley Challenge

Day 4: Did the Bible Live in Me Today?

Scripture:
Hebrews 4:12

Daily Challenge:
Read a short passage of Scripture and carry one verse with you throughout the day.

Teaching:
I once ordered a piece of furniture on the internet, when the furniture came it was unassembled. I knew I would have to put it together; however, the instructions that came with the piece contained no illustrations. Instead, these instructions tried to describe the assembly of the cabinet using only words. Needless to say, the assembly did not go well. It was not until I was able to find a YouTube video, illustrating how to build the cabinet, that I was able to successfully complete the assembly. Sometimes we treat the Bible as if it is only instructions, but the Bible is not meant to be read as a manual. The Bible tells the story of a relationship with God with illustrations. It illustrates for us the struggles and doubts that come with trying to be a disciple of Jesus. It shows us the frustrating power of sin and temptation.  The Bible is more than a book we read—it is meant to become a part of us. When Scripture “lives in us,” it moves from information to transformation. Hebrews tells us that God’s Word is alive and active, meaning it has the power to change our hearts and guide our actions. But that only happens when we allow it to take root in our lives. It is possible to read the Bible without being changed by it. The goal is not just to read more Scripture, but to let Scripture read us. When we reflect on God’s Word throughout the day, it begins to influence our decisions, attitudes, and responses. It becomes a steady voice guiding us toward truth. A life shaped by Scripture is a life grounded in God’s wisdom. Today, don’t just read the Bible—let it live in you.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How often does Scripture influence my daily decisions?
  2. Do I read the Bible for information or transformation?
  3. What is one verse I can carry with me today?

Prayer:
Lord, let Your Word come alive in me. Help me not just to read Scripture, but to live it out. Shape my thoughts and actions through Your truth. Give me a hunger for Your Word. Let it guide me in everything I do.
