Daily Devotional – Day 3 Wesley Challenge
Day 3: Do I Insist on Doing Something My Conscience Warns Me About?
Scripture:
James 1:22
Daily Challenge:
When you feel a nudge from God today, respond immediately instead of delaying.
Teaching:
Mark Twain once said, “An uneasy conscience is like a hair in the mouth.” A hair in the mouth is uncomfortable and hard to ignore. But if we want to bad enough, we can unpleasantly plow through. God often speaks to us through our conscience, making us uncomfortable when we drift from the right path. Yet there are moments when we feel that inner conviction—and ignore it. We justify, delay, or convince ourselves it’s not a big deal. Over time, ignoring our conscience can dull our sensitivity to God’s voice. This question challenges us to examine whether we are truly listening to God or forcing ourselves down a damaging path. Obedience is not always easy, but it is always life-giving. When we respond quickly to God’s prompting, our hearts stay soft and responsive. When we resist, our hearts become hardened and distant. God’s guidance is not meant to restrict us but to lead us into freedom and wisdom. Every small act of obedience strengthens our relationship with Him. Today is an opportunity to listen—and follow.
Reflection Questions:
- Is there something I feel God prompting me to do that I’ve been avoiding?
- What keeps me from responding quickly to God’s guidance?
- How can I become more sensitive to God’s voice?
Prayer:
God, help me to listen when You speak. Give me the courage to obey, even when it is difficult. Keep my heart soft and responsive to Your leading. Remove any resistance within me. Teach me to trust You fully.
