Daily Devotional – Day 2 Wesley Challenge
Day 2: Am I Enjoying Prayer?
Scripture:
Philippians 4:6–7
Daily Challenge:
Spend 5–10 minutes in prayer today without asking for anything—simply enjoy being with God.
Teaching:
One of the things that separates good and happy marriages from those who are less healthy is communication. Think of the best marriages you have ever seen, in those relationships the couple doesn’t just share obligatory information, they genially enjoy communicating. The couple enjoys hearing what the other person thinks on certain issues, they enjoy talking and flirting with each other. In those couples the partners don’t say, “how long do we have to talk before I can go do something else,” they have discovered the joy in communication. Prayer is often treated as a duty rather than a delight. We know we should pray, and so we don’t seek the joy that comes with talking with God. Prayer was never meant to feel like an obligation—it is an invitation into relationship. When we enjoy prayer, it becomes less about saying the right words and more about being with God. The Apostle Paul reminds us that prayer brings peace, not pressure. If prayer feels dry or distant, it may be because we’ve reduced it to a checklist instead of a connection. God is not grading your prayers; He is inviting you into His presence. Enjoying prayer means slowing down, being honest, and simply spending time with together. Over time, prayer becomes something we look forward to, not something we avoid. Like any relationship, enjoyment grows with consistency. The more we spend time with God, the more natural and life-giving prayer becomes.
Reflection Questions:
- Do I see prayer as a joy or a responsibility?
- What makes prayer feel difficult or disconnected for me?
- How can I make space to enjoy time with God this week?
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to enjoy being in Your presence. Remove any pressure or fear I feel about prayer. Help me to come to You honestly and freely. Fill my heart with peace as I spend time with You. Let prayer become a joy in my life.
