Daily Devotional – Day 12 Wesley Challenge

Day 12: Am I a Slave to Dress, Friends, Work, or Habits?

Scripture:
Galatians 5:1

Daily Challenge:
Identify one area where you feel controlled and intentionally create space from it today.

Teaching:
The underlying question that Wesley is addressing here is, “who gets a vote in our lives?” Who gets to have influence to shape our priorities, and goals. We often think of freedom as doing whatever we want, but it is not freedom if we are captive to unhealthy powers in our lives. Many things in life are not bad in themselves—appearance, relationships, work, and habits can all be good. But when they begin to control us, they become unhealthy. We may find ourselves seeking approval, chasing success, or relying on habits for comfort. Over time, these things can take a place in our lives that belongs to God. Christ has set us free, not to be controlled by the world, but to live in alignment with Jesus so that we might find health, success, happiness, and peace. This question invites us to examine what might be influencing us more than it should. Freedom begins with awareness and grows through surrender. Today, choose to live free.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What influences my decisions the most—God or something else?
  2. Is there anything I feel dependent on for identity or comfort?
  3. What would it look like to surrender that area to God?

Prayer:
God, reveal anything that is controlling me. Help me to live in the freedom You have given me. Break any unhealthy dependencies in my life. Teach me to rely on You alone. Lead me in truth and freedom.
