Daily Devotional – Day 1 Wesley Challenge
Day 1: Is Jesus Real to Me?
Scripture:
John 15:4
Daily Challenge:
Take 10 minutes today to sit quietly and talk to Jesus as if He is truly present with you—because He is.
Teaching:
Many of us have a tendency to pass judgment and feel like we know people we have never met. We sometimes think we know enough about certain politicians, musicians, athletes, and all sorts of other people in the public eye to pass judgment on what kind of people they are. But if we are honest, there is a difference between knowing about someone, and being in relationship with someone. This is especially true with our relationship with Jesus. Many people grow up hearing stories, attending church, and learning doctrines, yet never experience a real, personal connection with Christ. When Jesus is real to us, He is not distant or abstract—He is present, guiding, comforting, and transforming us daily. In John 15, Jesus invites us to “abide” in Him, which means to remain, dwell, and live in close connection with Him. This is not a one-time decision but a daily relationship. When Jesus becomes real to us, our faith moves from routine to relationship. We begin to recognize His voice, sense His presence, and trust His leadership. A real relationship with Jesus changes how we think, how we act, and how we respond to life. It brings peace in uncertainty and purpose in the ordinary. If Jesus feels distant today, maybe we should not be trying to learn more about Jesus, but entering into relationship with him.
Reflection Questions:
- When do I feel closest to Jesus in my daily life?
- Do I treat my relationship with Jesus as real, or more like a concept?
- What is one way I can become more aware of His presence today?
Prayer:
Jesus, help me to know You personally and deeply. Make Yourself real to me in my everyday life. Open my heart to recognize Your presence and Your voice. Draw me closer to You. Teach me what it means to abide in You.
