Words That Bring Peace
Teaching:
Proverbs 15:1 says, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
We are living in a time where words are constantly used to breed divisiveness and hatred. Jesus has never wanted hatred, but a world of peace and hope. When we choose harsh words we fuel sin, anger, and even violence in our world. But when we answer with gentleness, we can calm anger and bring peace. Wise people know that gentle words are stronger than harsh ones. The world often encourages us to “fight back” or “get even,” but God calls us to something wiser. A gentle response doesn’t mean weakness—it means wisdom. It shows self-control, love, and a desire for harmony. Harsh words are easy to say, but they often leave brokenness behind. Gentle words, though sometimes harder to give, bring healing and restoration. This is why Jesus taught us to be peacemakers. Our words can either tear down bridges or build them up. Wise people choose words that restore peace rather than spark conflict.
Questions for Meditation:
- Do my words usually bring peace or stir up conflict?
- Why is it sometimes harder to answer gently than harshly?
- How can I practice speaking gentle words this week?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for showing me the power of gentle words. Teach me to be patient and peaceful in my speech. Forgive me for times when I used harsh words that caused conflict. Fill my mouth with words that bring calm and healing. May my words reflect the peace of Christ.
