Words Have Power

Teaching:
Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

This verse reminds us that words are never empty—they carry real power. With our words, we can build people up, or we can tear them down. We can speak truth that heals, or lies that destroy. Words spoken in anger or carelessness can leave scars that last for years. On the other hand, kind words can encourage someone to keep going when they feel like giving up. God gave us the ability to speak, not so that we could harm, but so that we could bless. That is why wise people are thoughtful before they speak. They understand that every word is a seed planted, and those seeds grow into fruit, either good or bad. Our speech is one of the most powerful tools we have to show God’s love. The wise use their words carefully, but the foolish throw them around recklessly. If we want to honor God, we must treat our words with great care.

Questions for Meditation:

  1. Do I treat my words as powerful tools for good or as meaningless?
  2. Have I recently spoken words that harmed someone?
  3. How can I use my words today to bring life to others?

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for giving me the gift of words. Help me to remember that my words carry great power. Forgive me when I have spoken carelessly and caused harm. Teach me to use my words to bring life and blessing. May my speech always reflect Your truth and love.
