Love Builds Community
Teaching:
Proverbs 26:18–19 says “Like a maniac shooting flaming arrows of death 19 is one who deceives their neighbor and says, ‘I was only joking!’ “
This warns us about people who deceive others and then say, “I was only joking.” Careless words and actions can destroy community. Love, on the other hand, builds and strengthens it. A community rooted in love is safe, welcoming, and life-giving. Without love, relationships crumble under lies, gossip, and selfishness. God’s Word teaches us that the greatest commandment is to love Him and to love others. This is the foundation of healthy community. True love is patient, kind, and truthful. It does not deceive or play harmful games. Instead, it seeks the good of others and builds trust. When we choose love, we are choosing the way of Christ. Our community should be marked by love, for love covers many sins and brings people together. Love is the strongest bond that keeps God’s people united. Foolishness tears apart, but love always builds up.
Questions for Meditation:
- Have my words ever hurt my community instead of building it up?
- What does it look like to love my friends and family with Christlike love?
- How can I help build my community through acts of love this week?
Prayer (5 sentences):
Heavenly Father, fill my heart with Your love so I may build others up. Keep me from careless words or actions that harm relationships. Teach me to seek the good of others in every situation. Help my community to reflect the love of Christ. May everything I do strengthen others through love.
