Daily Devotional Guide – Sept 30th
Walking with the Wise
Teaching:
Proverbs 13:20 tells us, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”
This verse reminds us that community shapes who we become. The people we surround ourselves with influence our thoughts, choices, and habits. If we walk with wise people who love God, we will learn wisdom ourselves. This does not mean we are called to reject friendships with anyone who is struggling. On the contrary, we are called to love and minister to everyone, especially those in need. However, we need healthy people around us. God designed community to be a place where wisdom grows. That means the people we choose to spend time with matter deeply. Wise people are those who encourage us to follow God’s Word, to love others, and to make good choices. Foolish companions, however, often lead us into sin or selfish living. Each of us has a choice: to walk with wisdom or to walk with harm. Being in community means seeking out friends who will guide us toward God. When we walk together with the wise, we discover strength, guidance, and safety. Wisdom spreads through healthy community, just like foolishness spreads through harmful ones. God’s people must always choose their companions carefully.
Questions for Meditation:
- Who are the people influencing my choices the most right now?
- Are my closest companions helping me grow in wisdom or foolishness?
- How can I be a wise influence on others?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for surrounding me with people who can guide me closer to You. Give me wisdom to choose friends who honor You and live righteously. Protect me from the influence of those who would lead me away. Help me become a wise companion for others as well. May my community always point me back to You.
