Daily Devotional Guide – Sept 29th
We All Need Others
Teaching:
Proverbs 18:24 says “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
The book of Proverbs tells us in 18:24 that a person with many companions may still come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. This verse reminds us that life was never meant to be lived alone. Some people believe that they don’t need anyone, but those people are foolish. Even the strongest and wisest people need support, encouragement, and correction at times. God designed us to live in community, not isolation. A foolish person says, “I can do everything by myself,” but wise people know that friendship is a gift from God. When we think about Jesus, even He chose disciples to walk with Him during His ministry. He shared meals with them, taught them, and prayed with them. If Jesus, the Son of God, valued relationships, then we should too. Loneliness often comes from not prioritizing building and maintaining relationships. God calls us to lean on one another and lift each other up. True friendship gives life, hope, and strength. Foolishness pushes people away, but wisdom draws people together. Let us remember that God calls us into His family so that no one walks alone.
Questions for Meditation:
- Do I sometimes believe I don’t need anyone’s help?
- Who has God placed in my life to walk with me in difficult times?
- How can I become a friend who “sticks closer than a brother”?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for creating me to live in community with others. Forgive me when I think I can handle life all on my own. Help me see the people around me as gifts You have given for encouragement and strength. Teach me to be a faithful friend who sticks close through all seasons. May I always choose wisdom instead of isolation.
